Ozone Info
What is Ozone?
Ozone (O3) is a molecule composed of three oxygen atoms and is naturally produced by sunlight and lightning, imparting the clean-air odor we often associate with freshness.

UV-Based Ozone Generation

One method of ozone production involves passing ambient air over a UV lamp. The UV energy emitted by the lamp breaks apart oxygen molecules (O2) into individual oxygen atoms (O). These free oxygen atoms then combine with other oxygen molecules present in the air stream to form ozone (O3). This process typically yields ozone concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 0.1 weight percentage (wt%) or 100 to 1000 parts per million (ppm). Notably, this method doesn't necessitate specialized air-preparation systems for feed gas, making UV systems convenient and cost-effective.

Suitability for Residential Applications

UV ozone generation systems are well-suited for residential pools and spas. They generate sufficient ozone to effectively sanitize water and eliminate contaminants. Moreover, UV systems are generally more affordable compared to Corona Discharge (CD) systems. CD systems typically require additional air-preparation and cooling systems, adding complexity and cost to their installation and maintenance.

How Our System Works
When your pool pump is running, it draws in ambient air containing oxygen (O2) across our specially designed ultraviolet (UV) lamps. These UV emissions effectively break down the oxygen molecules into individual oxygen atoms. Subsequently, these oxygen atoms combine with other oxygen molecules present in the air to produce ozone (O3).

Introduction into Pool Water

The ozonated air is then drawn into the pool water on the suction side of the pump during its operation. As the pump's impeller churns, it generates small bubbles, pressurizing the ozone into the water within the pipe connecting the pump and the filter. Here, the filter serves as a reaction vessel, facilitating the breakdown of organic compounds such as lotions, oils, and cosmetics. Additionally, it alters ammonia compounds found in urine and perspiration, rendering them incapable of combining with and depleting chlorine.

Benefits of Ozone Treatment

Because our ozone generator only adds oxygen to the system, it does not introduce any undesirable compounds, such as chloramines. Furthermore, many by-products simply dissipate as gases, contributing to a cleaner and more enjoyable swimming experience.
Understanding Ozone and Chlorine in Water Treatment
Ozone and chlorine exhibit distinct differences in their mechanisms for oxidizing other compounds, particularly in pool and spa water treatment scenarios.

Chlorine's Oxidation Process

At residual levels typically found in pools and spas, chlorine undergoes chemical transformations upon interacting with compounds in the water. This process results in chlorine becoming integrated into the compound, altering its chemical structure. Common organic compounds such as body oils, suntan lotions, cosmetics, dead algae, and bacteria are among those affected. These reactions consume significant amounts of chlorine, diminishing its availability to act as a biocide and maintain residual levels. Moreover, chlorine's interactions with nitrogen-containing compounds lead to the formation of chloramines, which are less effective biocides and contribute to eye and skin irritations. Addressing this requires additional chlorine through processes like superchlorination or shocking.

Ozone as an Oxidizer

In contrast, ozone serves primarily as an oxidizer rather than a disinfectant or biocide. Unlike chlorine, ozone does not combine with other compounds but instead breaks down organic and nitrogen-containing compounds. This process makes the molecules smaller and more water-soluble, with some even dissipating as gases. Importantly, ozone alters amine compounds so they no longer react with chlorine. Consequently, ozone prevents the accumulation of chlorinated organic and amine compounds, avoiding the formation of unwanted by-products.

Synergy of Ozone and Chlorine

While chlorine remains the primary biocide and residual agent in pool and spa water, ozone enhances its effectiveness. Ozone's superior oxidizing properties accelerate the breakdown of organic compounds, reducing the burden on chlorine. This synergy between ozone and chlorine optimizes water treatment, reducing the need for excessive chlorine usage and specialized chemicals to address oxidation-related issues.

In summary, chlorine's role as a biocide and residual agent remains crucial, while ozone acts as the primary oxidizer. Ozone boosts chlorine's efficacy, promoting efficient water treatment and minimizing the need for additional chemicals and treatments associated with chlorine oxidation.

Chlorine (dispensed automatically)
There are many different ways to dispense  chlorine automatically. There are devices that plumb into the pool’s circulation pump, and devices that float in the pool or spa. These devices slowly erode chlorine so a small amount is added daily to create a residual.
Part 1 - Oxidizer
Advantages of Reducing Chlorine Usage
Chlorine, long hailed as the cornerstone of pool water sanitization, comes with notable drawbacks. Understanding these limitations underscores the benefits of reducing chlorine dependency in pool maintenance.

Poor Oxidizing Properties

Chlorine's effectiveness as an oxidizer is limited, leading to incomplete breakdown of organic matter and the formation of undesirable compounds in the water. These "combined chlorine" compounds not only cause eye irritation but also contribute to unpleasant odors, detracting from the swimming experience.

Susceptibility to Sunlight

Moreover, chlorine is vulnerable to degradation by sunlight, even in pools with adequate stabilizer levels. This vulnerability results in the rapid dissipation of chlorine, rendering it ineffective and necessitating frequent reapplication.

Optimizing Water Treatment with UltraPure 3.0 Approach

To address these challenges, our UltraPure 3.0 Approach to pool water sanitation prioritizes the use of ozone as the primary oxidizer. Ozone's potent oxidizing properties efficiently break down organic matter, minimizing the formation of unwanted compounds and reducing the burden on chlorine.

Additionally, we supplement chlorine's weaknesses with "sunstable" biostatic minerals or algicides. These supplements effectively mitigate chlorine's vulnerability to sunlight, ensuring sustained effectiveness.

Reimagining Chlorine's Role

With ozone and supplementary additives handling the bulk of water treatment tasks, chlorine's role is redefined. Rather than bearing the primary burden of sanitization, chlorine serves as a reliable backup, providing a measurable residual sanitizer.

By reducing chlorine reliance and optimizing its usage, our approach not only improves water quality but also minimizes chlorine-related issues, enhancing the overall swimming experience.
Understanding Mineral-Based Biostats
A mineral-based biostat operates by generating copper and silver ions at low concentrations, effectively inhibiting the growth of algae and bacteria in pool water. Unlike chlorine, these ions remain stable in sunlight, offering long-lasting protection against microbial growth.

Algae and Bacteria Control

Copper and silver ions work synergistically to disrupt the cellular processes of algae and bacteria, preventing their proliferation. An algicide may also be employed to eliminate existing algae and molds, following the manufacturer's recommended dosage levels.

Sun Stability

Crucially, mineral-based biostats exhibit superior sun stability compared to chlorine. They remain active in the water for extended periods, minimizing the loss of effectiveness due to sunlight exposure. This sustained efficacy reduces the need for higher chlorine residuals, as proportional sunlight losses are mitigated.

Enhanced Water Quality

By incorporating mineral-based biostats into pool maintenance routines, water quality is optimized with reduced reliance on chlorine. The consistent inhibition of algae and bacteria growth ensures a cleaner and healthier swimming environment for pool users.

Overall Efficiency

The use of mineral-based biostats not only improves water quality but also enhances the efficiency of pool maintenance. With prolonged effectiveness and reduced chlorine requirements, pool owners can enjoy cost savings and simplified upkeep routines.
How an Ozone Generator Works
UltraPure BlueForce O3 operates by converting naturally occurring oxygen into O3, commonly known as ozone. This ozone is then introduced into the swimming pool water, effectively eliminating non-living contaminants such as lotions, oils, makeup residues, and ammonia compounds.

By leveraging ozone for oxidation, the workload typically carried out by chlorine in the pool water is significantly reduced. In fact, this ozone infusion can lower the chlorine demand by up to 70%. As a result, the reliance on shock treatments and the need for costly specialty chemicals are greatly diminished, if not entirely eliminated.

In summary, the BlueForce O3 ozone generator harnesses the power of ozone to efficiently sanitize pool water, reducing chlorine dependency and minimizing the need for additional chemical treatments.
